Canadian Teenager Anna Huang Leads PIF London Championship on Day One, as Off-Course FII Panels Highlight Experience Economy and Sports Infrastructure Growth

LONDON, UK, August 6, 2026 — Canada’s Anna Huang fired an opening-round 67 (-6) on Thursday, August 6, at Centurion Club to take the lead on Day 1 of the PIF London Championship. The $2 million Ladies European Tour (LET) event, hosted in St Albans, serves as a primary showcase for Golf Saudi’s overarching strategy centered on three core pillars: Golf Tourism, Investment in Women’s Golf, and Commercial Development. By establishing world-class destinations across the Kingdom, driving capital into the women’s game, and fostering cross-industry business partnerships, Golf Saudi is leveraging major international platforms to position golf as a key driver of economic transformation and cultural exchange.

On the course, the three-time LET winner began her round on the 10th tee, rolling in birdies on the 13th and 16th holes before making an eagle on the 18th. Huang dropped her only shot of the day on the 3rd hole before bouncing back with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6, closing her round with a final birdie on the 9th.

“It started out pretty good, and then I chipped in on my third hole for a good par save, which really brought momentum to the round,” said the teenager. “My putting was good, and I was hitting all the fairways. This course is playing a bit different than last year, it’s definitely a lot firmer, and everything is rolling out, giving us good looks into the greens on par-5s and shorter irons into par-4s. I stuck to my process and game plan, and playing alongside my good friend Bri [Navarrosa] made a great day out there.

“It’s been a solid year, playing in four out of five Majors and making two cuts, which is an improvement from last year. There’s still plenty of room for growth, especially in Links golf, but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Australia’s Kelsey Bennett and Austria’s Emma Spitz share second place after opening with five-under-par rounds of 68. Bennett, who secured her maiden LET title earlier this season, opened with a birdie on her first hole before adding gains on 7 and 9. She picked up further momentum with back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13, and despite a bogey on 16, bounced back with a birdie at the last to sit one shot off the lead. Spitz produced an eventful round of 68 (-5) featuring nine birdies alongside two double bogeys.

Off the course, the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute, a global non-profit foundation backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), brought its flagship thought-leadership platform to the fairways of Centurion Club.

The FII panel session highlighted the PIF London Championship's role as a commercial and lifestyle driver for women's sports, exploring how progressive brand partnerships, culture-first retail, and breaking traditional dress codes are accelerating participation among a new generation of fans. Highlighting Golf Saudi’s strategy of merging sport, fashion, and lifestyle, Erica Malbon, co-founder of Malbon Golf, noted: "Organizations like Golf Saudi are investing in sports and building physical destinations like the new Bedowin multi-brand retail experience opening in Riyadh this October. They are curating the best brands in golf, bringing together great music, coffee, and events to elevate the entire sport together."

At the macro level, discussions centered on building long-term economic ecosystems through major global asset ownership and authored, human-centric destinations. Panelists explored how elite sporting events act as gateways for destination tourism, talent pathways, and year-round infrastructure development across the Kingdom. Detailing the strategic investor shift driving this growth, Chloe Tagg from Surj Sports Investment explained: "From Surj Sports’ angle as a sports investor, we are moving the approach forward from a hosting moment to creating an investor-led ecosystem. That includes infrastructure within the Saudi giga-projects, but also shifting from a rental model, where you pay for events to come into the Kingdom, to actually owning those assets."

Looking ahead, all eyes return to the fairways for Round 2 tomorrow as the world's elite players continue to battle for position at Centurion Club. With the 36-hole cut looming, Friday’s play promises high-stakes action as the field contends for a share of the elevated $2 million prize purse, further solidifying the PIF London Championship as a premier highlight on the global sports calendar.
