Beyond the Purse, Inside Golf Saudi’s $15M Strategy to Reshape Women’s Golf

The global sports economy is changing, and women’s professional golf is leading the way. When the Ladies European Tour (LET) starts the PIF London Championship at Centurion Club in Hertfordshire from August 6 to 9, 2026, it will mark the sixth consecutive year of this event. This championship is more than just a top tournament; it represents a long-term strategy by Golf Saudi and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) aimed at transforming professional golf, creating inclusive communities, and making Saudi Arabia a center for sports tourism.

Dismantling Capital Deficits: The $15M Institutional Baseline

For years, women’s professional sports faced challenges like limited funding, a lack of broadcast exposure, and fragmented sponsorship opportunities. Launched in 2021 as the Aramco Team Series, this initiative changed the situation by adding institutional support. Now part of the PIF Global Series, the LET's financial foundation has been strengthened. For the 2026 season, the series will provide an unprecedented $15 million in total prize money across five international events, giving an economic stability to the tour.

This strategy focuses on equal financial support and improved structures. The season-opening PIF Saudi Ladies International at Riyadh Golf Club had a $5 million purse, matching the men's prize money and setting a standard for fair pay in sports.

Tom Phillips, CEO of the Ladies European Tour, notes the operational impact:

"These tournaments receive strong support from our members through their complete event experiences and competitive settings. Our partnership with PIF and Golf Saudi continues to elevate competition and commitment to the women’s game, ensuring our players have the opportunities they deserve."

Global Integration and Athlete Storytelling

The commercial growth of the series was further shown in April 2026 at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, where a major agreement with the LPGA Tour resulted in a $4 million championship. Connecting European and American golf on U.S. soil created a model for global governance and prime-time broadcast visibility.

The media returns reflect this increased profile: according to YouGov Sport’s 2026 Global Broadcast & Sponsorship Report, the Shadow Creek event generated $60.6 million in Net

Sponsorship Value (+138% year over year) and delivered 3,455 total broadcast hours across 91 markets (+219% year over year), with digital streaming accounting for 52% of total viewership.

The competitive format has also changed. Switching to a 72-hole individual stroke play format enhances the focus on individual achievements. This approach boosts fan engagement, digital interaction, and clearer broadcast stories.

This continued investment yields noticeable competitive results. At the 2026 season-opener in Riyadh, English star and Golf Saudi Ambassador Charley Hull produced an impressive final-round performance, coming from behind to win the title and the $750,000 winner's check from the $5 million purse.

Beyond immediate payouts, the series also awards key Rolex World Ranking and LET Order of Merit points. By providing a reliable and well-paid schedule, the PIF Global Series is turning women’s professional golf into a stable and rewarding career path.

Elevating Female Performance

Besides earnings and global exposure, Golf Saudi and the Public Investment Fund are fundamentally changing player welfare by supporting a groundbreaking health and research framework with the Ladies European Tour.

Led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Danny Glover, the LET Performance Institute is forming a unique 18-member expert advisory board to address the historical gaps in female sports science. Backed by Golf Saudi’s long-term commitment, this initiative uses tournament weeks as real-time data collection points for PhD researchers, focusing on critical but under-researched areas like optimizing menstrual cycles, tailored nutrition for women, mental health, and biomechanical health. By integrating on-the-ground clinical care, the tour ensures financial investment is matched by a top-notch, data-driven performance infrastructure designed for today’s female athletes.

Capital, Partnerships, and Corporate Alignment

The PIF Global Series brings together global investment, corporate leadership, and elite performance. Through Golf Saudi’s network, the series encourages connections across commercial centers worldwide.

PIF’s long-term commitment since 2021 has established it as a key player in transforming women’s golf. Additionally, the series promotes national tourism through the PIF Future Fairways program, where guests can explore Saudi Arabia’s new courses via interactive digital simulators. Title Partner Aramco has played an essential role by hosting events in

the U.S., South Korea, and China that connect female business leaders, elite amateurs, and professionals while attracting top talent from the LET, LPGA, and CLPGA tours.

A major factor in the series' commercial success is its integration with corporate sectors. Recognizing that golf audiences include senior executives and decision-makers, Golf Saudi built a long-term partnership with the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute. Tournament weeks feature exclusive FII-led seminars, executive roundtables, and leadership discussions on sports, finance, sustainability, and commercialization. Enhanced by 'Elevated Greens' hospitality experiences and executive pro-ams, these events connect corporate sponsors directly with the changemakers of the women’s game.

Community Impact and Grassroots Accessibility

Beyond corporate environments, long-term commercial sustainability requires wide-reaching participation. A key part of Golf Saudi’s social strategy is its third-year partnership with the Muslim Golf Association (MGA).

The federation supports exclusive MGA Ladies Golf Days designed for Muslim women held during tournament weeks worldwide. From Las Vegas to Shenzhen, these sold-out sessions introduce thousands of women and girls to a sport where they have often been underrepresented, significantly improving golf's accessibility at the grassroots level.

Engine for Vision 2030

On a broader economic scale, the series highlights Saudi Arabia’s national tourism and economic diversification efforts under Vision 2030. Each global broadcast showcases the Kingdom's growing golf infrastructure. The national portfolio includes the premier championship venue at Riyadh Golf Club in the capital, along with coastal destinations like Shura Links, a sustainable championship course on the Red Sea. The footprint extends through the fairways of Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), upcoming world-class courses near UNESCO World Heritage sites in historic Diriyah, and Qiddiya, a planned entertainment and sports hub aimed at pushing the limits of sports technology and spectator experiences.

A New Commercial Standard

As the PIF London Championship approaches at Centurion Club, the larger model becomes evident. By combining government investment, corporate partnerships, health research, grassroots participation, and luxury tourism, Golf Saudi and the PIF have created a self-sustaining framework that enhances the women’s game and sets a new standard for the global sports economy.
