ASIAN TOUR SEASON FINALE HEADS TO HISTORIC DIRAB AS DEFENDING CHAMPION JOHN CATLIN RETURNS FOR THE 2025 SAUDI OPEN PRESENTED BY PIF

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 7th December 2025 The 2025 Saudi Open presented by PIF will bring the Asian Tour season to a dramatic close from 10-13 December at Dirab Golf & Country Club, marking the first time the Tour’s finale is hosted at one of Saudi Arabia’s most scenic and historic championship venues.

With a US$1 million prize fund and a near 120-player international field, the tournament will feature defending champion John Catlin, the leading contenders in the 2025 Asian Tour Order of Merit, and the largest contingent yet of Saudi professionals and elite amateurs competing on home soil.

Now established in an elevated position on the global golf calendar, the Saudi Open presented by PIF continues to reinforce the Kingdom’s investment in world-class events, elite competition pathways, and the long-term growth of the sport in line with national ambitions for participation, tourism and high-performance development.

Catlin headlines the field after a dominant wire-to-wire victory in April 2024 at Riyadh Golf Club, where he finished 24-under-par and secured one of the most commanding wins of his career. His return sets up a compelling storyline, particularly as the finale will also decide the season-long Asian Tour Order of Merit, currently led by Kazuki Higa and Scott Vincent. These two will battle for one of Asian golf’s most prestigious honors.

This year’s move to Dirab Golf & Country Club adds new character to the event. Set in the natural Tawfiq valley just outside Riyadh, Dirab holds a special place in Saudi golf history as the Kingdom’s first grassed championship course, opened in 1994. Its undulating fairways, elevated tee boxes, mature landscapes and panoramic views offer an intimate and distinctive test that contrasts with the wider layouts used in recent years. The course, recognized for meeting international sustainability standards, previously hosted the Saudi Open during its earlier Asian Development Tour chapter and now returns as a full Asian Tour venue, an important milestone in the evolution of the tournament.

This year’s Saudi Open presented by PIF also reinforces its role within the Asian Tour’s talent pathway. The Asian Development Tour’s regulations confirm that the top five players on the final ADT Order of Merit earn starts on the Asian Tour, including entry into events such as the Saudi Open presented by PIF. This ensures that emerging players who excel on the development circuit have the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

Alongside the international field, a group of Saudi professionals and elite amateurs from the national programme will once again be part of the tournament line-up, reflecting the growing depth of the sport in the Kingdom.

The Saudi Open presented by PIF follows the conclusion of the Saudi Amateur Championship, which will grant the champions direct qualification into the Saudi Open, as part of Golf Saudi’s commitment to supporting local players and champions, and in line with the Arab Golf Federation’s vision to provide athletes with opportunities to qualify for international events.

The event will offer an accessible, family-friendly experience shaped by the natural beauty and close-up vantage points that Dirab uniquely provides. Spectators can expect a relaxed tournament environment framed by the valley setting, with easy access from across Riyadh and viewing areas that bring fans closer to the action.
